Dr. Douglas Ferreira
Douglas Ferreira is a structural biologist in the Translational and Clinical Research Institute, with expertise in cryo-EM to study human enzymes.
Dr. Shangyuwen Yang
Shangyuwen Yang is a PDRA in Prof. Paul Race’s lab at Newcastle University. His research interests include protein structure and function, enzymology, and X-ray crystallography. His work has included studies on Diels–Alderases, together with related antimicrobial targets. He has experience in protein biochemistry and crystallographic structure determination.
Dr. Olivia Gittins
Olivia is a PDRA at the Centre for Programmable Biological Matter at Durham University, working in the Heddle group. Her research focusses on using cryo-EM to study the type II topoisomerase and antimicrobial target, DNA Gyrase.
To understand more about how this multi-domain enzyme complex carries out negative supercoiling of DNA, she aims to capture snapshots of different conformations throughout the Gyrase catalytic cycle using time-resolved cryo-EM approaches. This could unveil new antibiotic strategies and help combat resistance mechanisms to existing drugs, such as fluoroquinolones.
